Popular Blog Hosts
I’m seeing lots of blogs hosted on either Pika or Bear Blog these days with Bear leading the way. Both look real nice but neither supports native comments which I think is a real limitation. (Tip: Mataroa, is one of the few newish blogging hosts that has comments. FYI)
I see a few blogs on other hosts but not in the standout numbers I’m seeing with Pika And Bear.
The Blogger Question
I’ve not been recommending Blogger as a blog host for a few years. The worry being that Google has not been updating the Blogger site for years AND Google has a bad habit of cancelling popular services leaving users in the lurch. But recently, I’ve had the chance to browse some Blogger blogs that were started years ago, are now huge sites with hundreds of long posts and they are still working. Some of these are massive but they still work. So points to Google for keeping Blogger in good repair and working.
Adding Websites
I was starting to fall seriously behind: I kept adding to my bookmarks for inclusion to the directory way faster than I was adding sites. I’ve been adding 4 – 5 sites a day for awhile and still falling behind. So today I added 10 URL’s just so I’m not feeling like I’m drowning in links. So anyway there are plenty of big fat juicy, mostly old school, URL’s for you to explore. Go-go-go!
Bots
Lately I’ve been seeing Googlebot hanging out deep in the directory, not in the blog but in the directory. Google quit listing directories back in 2007. They crawled the heck out of Indieseek.xyz directory back when I was adding tons of listings as an initial “seed” list of sites. But Google never sends any traffic to the directory itself, only to the blog half of the sites. But Google does want to know who I’m linking to in the directory so Googlebot comes snooping.
I’ve also spot Yandex, Mojeek, Bing and Yep pretty regularly. I know Bing and Mojeek send traffic to the blog on a pretty regular basis.
Those are all legit search engine bots so I’m not complaining. But I do get a ton of SEO bots that also want to know who I’m linking to, plus I still get a persistent spam bot that keeps trying to add URL’s every hour of every day. Bots are taking over the Web.
