1. English Language only –  We only list sites that have substantial English language content.  Sorry, I can’t screen what I can’t read.  I’ve gotten a couple of non-English submissions recently and the sites looked neat but no can list.  A site could be bilingual and I would list it as long as it also has substantial English content that is easy to find.

2. Robot Wars –  I got one bad actor trying to auto-submit URL to the directory all day long.  Sometimes I’ll have 9 or 10 bots all from adjacent IP’s trying to submit spam URL’s all at the same time every hour of the day.  They are blocked but this has been going on for many months.  Obviously the spambot operators don’t check to see if their spam sites ever get listed.  This is why we cannot have nice things.

3. I’ve been cleaning out dead listings.  It’s not fun at all.  I’ve been through RPG and Podcast categories.  I left podcast sites that still have an archive of old podcasts to listen to even if they have quit producing new.

4. I joined Status.cafe.  I like it so I’ll give them a plug.  It’s free, simple and well thought out.

5. I don’t list resume sites.  Now there are some resume sites that have a token blog attached and there are some really good blogs that happen to have a resume tacked on.  The second is a lot more likely to get listed.  The hard part for me is deciding which side of the line these sites are on.

6.  We mainly list personal blogs.  I don’t mind a discrete link to buy the blogger a coffee, but if the blog is paywalled or that donation plea is a little too pushy you may not get accepted.

7.  Linking back – a lot of webmasters have taken the time to link back to Indieseek.xyz.  Thank you, I really do appreciate it.  Those referrals help web surfers find new sites.

8. Site ideas – besides those here, I recently saw somebody that made a personal Neocities site for themselves but also a separate Neocities site for their cat!  Hey, why not?  So think about making a website for your favorite pet.  Also if you have a Little Library you might want to make a static website about it.  I’m just firing out ideas.

Keep building those websites!
